I Suck At Crafts That Require A Long Attention Span

I love, love, LOVE fabric. I learned how to sew (albeit poorly) a purse back in high school when Home Ec classes still existed. A few years later I made some purses and sling bags from tea towels, and haven't touched my sewing machine since. At a past Ladies Craft Night we made these no-sew bags, and mine turned out wonderfully. Then I used it to carry heavy objects and it fell apart quite quickly. I believe the day the strap tore off Matt's words were, "Are you really surprised? You made a bag using staples."

So why this post about fabric and my not-so-great sewing skills? I really want to be great at sewing. I promise I do. But I'm a messy, instant gratification crafter, and by the time I've laid things out, cut patterns, measured, pinned, and so on, and so on... I'm over it. Which is why a bag made of fabric, duct tape and staples was right up my alley. So sewing isn't for me. But I love fabric, remember? What's a girl to do? Find other crafts that don't involve a machine and hours of cutting/measuring/pinning!

Here are a few of my favorites:

  1. I do also! I have an unfinished 4' x 6' painting I've been working on for three months that should just be done already. However, I took up making earrings with beads and wire work because the little guys are finished so quickly.

    I feel you here!

  2. Same reason I started making felt crafts! I'm able to finish them and clean up in one evening!
