Staying Home, Saving $$$, Hacking Recipes

This whole "work from home" thing has helped me cut down on a lot of my weekly spending. Since I don't meet friends for lattes in the morning or pick up a Dunkin' coffee on my way in to work... I'm saving $4-$25 a week in beverages alone. The downside? See the map below for a quick view of how many delicious coffee shops I have within walking distance of the apartment!

It's nice to step away from my desk and venture out during the day. Usually I walk to the post office and stop for a RedEye newspaper. It's so tempting to walk in any one of the 10+ coffee shops for a mid-day pick-me-up. I'm trying to be good, so I've started following "Recipe Hacks" for Starbucks drinks. This morning I attempted to make a homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte. I followed this recipe. It turned okay. It will do in a pinch, but I'm still in search of a better recipe.

I also made a Starbucks-esque Caramel Apple Spice Cider as a treat after lunch. This one tasted EXACTLY like the Starbucks version! I followed this simple recipe...


Cinnamon Syrup (a few pumps) --- I didn't have syrup and just added a dash of cinnamon 
Treetop Apple Cider (this is the brand Starbucks uses)
Whipped Cream
Caramel Syrup (drizzle on top)
Heat mug of cider to desired temperature. Blend cinnamon (syrup) with apple cider. Top with whipped cream and caramel syrup. Enjoy!
It looked (and tasted) just as good as the original!
Next on my list of recipe hacks to try? This Frappucino recipe.
